SUNY and CUNY – the Two Major College Systems in New York
Brightway has forged unique partnerships with SUNY and CUNY and their government-funded ASAP programs (SUNY ASAP and CUNY ASAP), providing holistic support to over 400 student parents across eleven community colleges throughout New York State and New York City.
SUNY, the State University of New York, is the largest comprehensive university system in the United States.
CUNY, the City University of New York, is the other major college system in New York State, and it is the largest public urban university in the United States.
Together with SUNY and CUNY ASAP, our program delivers these essential supports:
- 100% coverage of family childcare costs, on or off campus, net of any available state or federal subsidies
- Cash assistance for emergencies or other unforeseen expenses that could derail educational progress, delivered quickly and flexibly
- Tuition assistance that makes continuing education possible
- Transportation assistance that ensures access to campus
- Personalized academic and career advising that guides students toward success
These partnerships with SUNY and CUNY achieve two critical goals:
- They maximize impact by providing a comprehensive support system that time-starved student parents can access through existing, trusted campus relationships, as they balance financial hardship, childcare, work and school.
- They significantly leverage philanthropic dollars by utilizing existing ASAP infrastructure, resources and supports funded by New York State and New York City.
